I read so many blogs, tweets and updates
on other people’s
OLWs
while I wondered if
mine would ever find me.
I loved the words: open, journey,
courage, choices, listen, shine, do, enough, refresh, forward, focus and
create.
But none of them seemed to call my name.
Where is my word?
Last year this was so easy; why could it not be easy this time?
Then something started happening.
I was reading online--can't remember if it was a tweet or a blog--when a word came to my mind.
Could this be my word?
I remember writing it down on my phone to make sure I will not forget it.
At least once a day I would look at the note and ponder that word.
I was asking, is this for me in 2014?
Meanwhile, I was looking back at 2013 and my word, irrigate.
That was a good word, and I felt I was not done with irrigation yet.
Should I continue with that word?
No, it was time to choose a new word.
Perhaps a one that could continue the work of irrigation.
Definitions: to see, get knowledge of, learn of, find, gain sight or knowledge of
Synonyms: explore, invent, realize, reveal, determine, identify, perceive
My word MERRY found me when I wasn't so. I want to look at life in this way this year. love love how you led up to the big reveal of Discover...awesome word!
ReplyDeleteIsn't it wonderful when it is not about us finding the word, but the word finding us!
DeleteThis word will lead you to interesting places and thoughts. I will discover alongside you as you write each week. No word has jumped out and seemed just right this year. I will wait, watch, and ponder.
ReplyDeleteThere just might be a word that will find you. There is no timetable. 2014 has 12 months in it. Plenty of time to "discover" your word. I look forward to discovering more with my word this year.
DeleteDiscover - it speaks of open mind and curiosity - I look forward to reading where the word takes you.
ReplyDeleteThanks Terje! I am excited to see all the things that this year will bring!
DeleteI have a feeling that your OWL is the start of something new. Thanks for sharing, Jaana.
ReplyDeleteTara, "starting of something new?" Just wait and see! (I am doing the same:))
DeleteDiscover is a great word. It will lead you to so many new places! Enjoy your year of discovery, Jaana.
ReplyDeleteThanks Stacey! I look forward to new adventures.
DeleteCan't wait to read your slices about what you will be discovering this year. It's a great word and so full of adventure.
ReplyDeleteI am excited to know people who have the same OLW! Here is to discovering new things!
DeleteI would certainly say your word of irrigation has led you to discover. It is full of possiblibties. If discovering your artsy side is any indication of the artwork on this post, then I would say you are well on your way! Can I ask where/how you made that? Looking forward to reading about your discoveries!
ReplyDeleteThank you Leigh Anne! I made the sign for me using power point, then saving it as a jpeg and then uploading it to http://pixlr.com/express/ where you can manipulate photos, add frames and effects etc. Yes, artsy side coming. Pens and binder inserts came today so I can now start making my OLW binder!
DeleteSounds complicated to someone who considers herself to technologically challenged, but I think I will give it a try. I had a student create some artwork for me, (yes, artistically challenged too!) and will share that soon. She did a wonderful job! Thanks!
DeleteIt is not really complicated if I can do it! Give it a try!
DeleteLove your word and love the artwork. I've been admiring all the beautiful art that's being created with OLWs. I'm glad you shared how you made it. I think discovery is going to be such a great word. I'm excited about the possibilities. :) Have fun on your journey.
ReplyDeleteThanks Julie! I am looking forward to creating some art this year as well. Not being an artsy person, I will have to try some new avenues! And, of course you are right, discover is such a great OLW!
DeleteLove your process of uncovering your word! I am excited to see what you discover this year!
ReplyDeleteThanks Beth! This whole OLW is definitely a process. Process that will take 365 days!
DeleteDiscover is a terrific word! I love the four different strands you have identified. I want to discover more about the Creator too. I also want to pursue something artistic, though not sure what. Wishing you a year of huge discoveries!
ReplyDeleteHere is to discovering more about our creator together!
DeleteDiscover is a great word! Imagine the places it can take you this year! I wish you many happy discoveries, many learning discoveries and many discoveries of joy.
ReplyDeleteThanks Robin! Today's discovery will be go out in the cold!
