I am joining #nerdlution round 2!
I followed closely the posts and tweets during the first round. I loved reading what people were doing and accomplishing. I knew, however, that joining would not work for me at that time. Now, I am excited! There is nothing hindering me from joining this time around.
I am realistic--at least I think I am. I have read some blogs this weekend from others that talked about their successes and failures during the first round.
I like how Michelle talks about round two being a sequel. Read it here.
Katherine's post helped me brainstorm my goals for #nerdlution and how I could integrate my OLW into it. Katherine's post is must reading if you are thinking about joining #nerdlution.
So, what am I going to do during #nerdlution round 2?
ONE
- Keep it organized: because I need to make sure home stays organized just as well as my classroom
TWO
- Discover new ideas to try with my students: this will go along with my OLW (discover). I want to try new ideas. These ideas might just come from #3. And why not discover the creative side of me as well!
THREE
- Read professional books: my goal will be one book per month. My first book will be Chris Lehman's Falling In Love With Close Reading. I found a colleague who will read it together with me.
FOUR
- Paper pile reduction: With some help a couple of months ago, my basement got organized. Now I just need to tackle the paper piles/boxes that need sorting. Perhaps a few more snow days to help out with this.
I think these are all
doable goals. I will still continue my exercise routine, but because it is
something that I have already been doing, I did not want to add it as one of my
goals. I can't wait to see what everyone will accomplish in 50 days! Do you realize how much longer the days will be in 50 days??? More sunshine to energize all of us!
Don't forget that you can read much more about #nerdlution on Chris Lehman's blog or tweet at #nerdlution.
I look forward to reading what you learn from this challenge - both PD books and habit forming. I have noticed that you have gradually increased how often you blog, starting from SOL, then Celebrate, then Coffee for Your Heart and now Nerdlution reflections, that makes 4. Go girl!
ReplyDeleteTerje, more writing is happening partly because of snow days! Today is one of those snow days again! When our annual ESL testing season begins, I might not have time to write as much, but then Marchis just around the corner!
ReplyDeleteExcellent choices and reasonable. Falling in Love with Close Reading is great you will get tons from this perspective... the kind of thinking that will help you DISCOVER a lot of things about reading and life. Enjoy your nerdlution.
ReplyDeleteThanks Julianne! I am of to working on my goals!
DeleteI love 2 and 3... 1 and 4 would be so hard for me!
DeleteToday is the 6th day off this winter in my district, too. I just started the yearly marathon of ESL testing... then we had two 2 hour delays, now this day off, and most likely will go back with a delay tomorrow... I wonder if we'll ever get our testing done!
My ESL testing foes not start until the middle of February. Hopefully the weather will be better by then. Working on organizing today, and then taking breaks to comment. Have to make organizing fun! By the way, #1 is much easier when you know you are getting visitors!
DeleteI loved taking part in the Nerdlution the first time around. It got me motivated to get back, to exercising. I'm still mulling over how to go into round 2. I love how you tie together your Nerdlution goals with your OLW. That is something to think about. The best part, though, is the community and support through both successes and failures.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kay! It always helps when you have somebody to be accountable to! Looking forward to see what this round brings into my life!
DeleteNerdlution #1 did not go as well as planned. This time around, I think I was more realistic about my goals. I'm glad that we will have the Thursday roundup. I still need to check out Coffee for Your Heart. These blogging spaces help me do the writing I want to do. The snow days certainly do help me find the time. I hope you enjoy Chris Lehman's book. It's nice to have someone to read it with you. I really liked it. Good luck with Nerdlution and I'll look forward to connecting with you then too.
ReplyDeleteI think realistic goals is the key! I tried combining OLW with #nerdlution as one can only keep track of so much. Coffee for Your Heart is also good for my heart; it feeds my soul! We are here to support each other right.
DeleteI like the sound of it, now to find out what it is by reading Chris Lehman's blog.
ReplyDeleteJust finished cleaning and organizing my living room! Now to the gym. Have to keep going on my goals. Otherwise it is too easy to just sit inside when the weather is so cold!
DeleteThanks for sharing this Jaana. I dropped out of Nerdlution #1. Too much going on then and my focus got a bit blurred but I'm following your lead and jumping back in :)
ReplyDeleteLook forward to reading about your #nerdlution! If we fall, we just try again! Isn't that what we teach our students?
DeleteGood for you, Jaana! I'm honestly intimidated by Nerdlution and kind of depressed when I see the tweets, because I'm just not there. Maybe some other time! I'm just trying to keep my head above water at school right now... I got Falling in Love with Close Reading for Christmas and it's high on my to-read pile. Maybe we can talk about it together!
ReplyDeleteI am taking a more relaxed approach to nerdlution. Combining the goals with what I need to do, but by vocalizing them I am hoping to make myself more accountable. I would love to talk with you about Chris's book. Hoping to start reading it after exams at school...once we have school again! But then in two weeks I must start ELL testing! This is life now!
DeleteBest wishes to you for this round of #Nerdlution, Jaana. It looks like you have some terrific goals that will be rewarding in many ways!
ReplyDeleteI sure hope so Linda! Snow days helped this week!
DeleteYour number four needs to be my number one! I am such a pile person and I really need to do something about it! I have Close Reading on my list too...or should I say pile! Good luck with round two!
ReplyDeleteThanks Leigh Anne! Paper pile sorting is never ending! Let's see how far I can go in 50 days!
ReplyDeleteI gave Close Reading to my mentee for her birthday with the secret goal that we could read it (a chapter a week and discuss it). Let me know how you're progressing. We should arrange a google chat to talk together.
ReplyDeleteGoogle chat would be great--even if I end up reading it by myself!
