Poetry Friday

Sun shines through the gray window
Does it reflect my wintry soul?
Hot water, vinegar, newspapers and rags;
it's all I need to clean
my windows from their wintry grime.
How do I clean my soul?

  1. Perhaps the same ingredients put to use in a different way:take a bath in scented hot water, eat a salad with good balsamic vinegar, read a section of the newspaper that doesn't contain hard news and buy a new outfit! Love the metaphor in your poem!

  2. Or else, a long, long walk soaking in the emerging warmth and sunshine. Perhaps, some time cleaning a closet or putting away those heavy coats in favor or lighter ones (although I would wait until after next week's storm passes).

    1. Putting away heave coats---might have to wait a few weeks!

  3. The one thing I have always loved about Spring is that it is a new beginning. It is a time of rejuvenation. A time to reexamine who we are and what we want for ourselves and other in the days and months ahead.

  6. Lovely analogy, Jaana. All one needs to clean those windows, but we have more snow coming. I think I'll wait a little longer! As for your question: my mother-in-law lived a very long life, & drank some kind of vinegar concoction every day for years. She was a big fan of vinegar for multiple uses! Maybe the vinegar is not only good for windows?

    1. My mother used to take a spoonful of vinegar every morning. Perhaps I should try it.

  11. I think that we need some warmer weather to get these souls clean! Your poem is wonderful, Jaana. Love the vinegar, newspaper and rags and the connection to the soul and cleaning it, as well.
